Modern Political Thinking in Islam: Challenges and Perspectives
Public debates all over the world focus today on questions discussing the relation between Islam and specifically political Islam and the West. In the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians the “Islamic question” has become more relevant with the rise of Hamas to power. The “religionization” of the conflict is seen by many commentators as a development dooming the conflict irresolvable.
These debates are not always based on thorough knowledge about the different currents in modern political thinking in Islam or knowledge about specific political organisations related to Islam or Islamism.
In our Political Café we will have the possibility to get an insight
into important currents of modern political thinking in Islam. The
distinguished speaker, Mustafa Abu Sway, Professor of Philosophy and an
expert in this field, will discuss the challenges and perspectives of
modern political thinking in Islam not only in relation to the
Palestinian-Israeli conflict but also in the more global
