Screening and Discussion

"The Headscarf as a System"

A documentary by Meral El, Shina Erlewein, Bettina Hohaus and Fatiyeh Naghibzadeh

The movie THE HEAD SCARF AS A SYSTEM portrays four Iranian women living in exile in Germany. Since the Islamic Revolution those women lived under political oppression and gender - oriented discrimination. They consider the compulsory wearing of the headscarf both as a symbol of patriarchal rule over women and a means of political power to oppress any opposition against the Islamic government.
The film follows their individual stories and shows not only their personal way to continue in their political struggle, but also how to deal with the emotional difficulties of living in exile and the hostility of the German society.

Screenings will be followed by a discussion with the film maker Fatiyeh Naghibzadeh.

The co-director of the film Fatiyeh Naghibzadeh herself lives in exile in Germany for over 20 years. She studied educational - and gender science at he Humboldt University in Berlin.

Fatiyeh's visit to Jerusalem and Tel Aviv was organized by the Willy Brandt Center Jerusalem and Artneuland Berlin - The Home for Trialog www.artneuland.com

The film will also be shown at the Cinematheque Tel Aviv
