“Social Art” Projects

Art as a tool to bring about a positive change for marginalized communities

In the process of history, art has played various roles. Until now, the place of art of in society remains debatable. On the other side there are explicit links between artistic practice and political action.
In the legendary year of 1968 politics, art and culture united and caused a global stir with acts of solidarity across the world, demanding greater freedom and fairer social systems.
With the formation of Agosto Boal’s “Theatre of the Oppressed” art finally has merged with social and political struggle.

Today “Social Art” is a widely accepted tool to bring about a positive change for marginalized communities through providing them with artistic training.
Digital photography, video and internet opened new and innovative prospects for activism.
By non-formal education and “education thru art” unprivileged groups of the society learn to acquire the skills to voice their living situation.
Social art projects encourage people to overcome their passivity, find a personal vision and finally play an active role in shaping their community.

The WBC develosp and initiates both, social art - and neighborhood projects.
The WBC further supports and cooperates with local activists in the fields of photography, video, music, fine art education and handcraft.
