Qalandia - A Checkpoints Story

A documnetary by Neta Efroni, 60 min, 2009, English Subtitles

Over a span of six years, Filmmaker Neta Efrony documented an Israeli military Checkpoint - on the road between East Jerusalem and Ramallah - who grew and expanded into becoming a Terminal.

''Efrony's genius lies in actualizing the Chinese maxim equating one picture to a thousand words with especial clarity and poignancy. She allows the unimpeded eye of her camera to record the reality in front of it and from time to time the thoughts she shares with us seem to echo those very same thoughts in the minds of the viewers.' Lynda Brayer

MDR Germany recommends the film:
"The camera was filming without excitement, the film has no additional musical dramatization and emotional. It is solely the pictures speak."

Kalandia's Checkpoint does not separate between Arabs and Jews; it separates between Palestinians and Palestinians. The film, shot in a cinéma vérité style, is an authentic and disturbing testimony to the daily struggle of Palestinians who wish to continue their routine lives, on their way to work, education, medical care or religious reasons.
